Dr. Singer is recognized world wide for quality and innovation in the field of ophthalmology. Specializing in cataract and refractive surgery, he has trained thousands of surgeons world-wide on the techniques he pioneered in Vermont. Dr. Singer has served as a Visiting Professor at Wills Eye Hospital of Philadelphia, El-Maghraby Eye Hospital of Saudi Arabia, Iwate Medical University of Japan, Chinese University of Hong Kong, Eye Hospital of Brasilia, and the Fyodorov Eye Microsurgery Institute of Moscow. Additional professional appointments have included the American Academy of Ophthalmology Quality of Care Panel for cataract surgery guidelines, the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery Scientific Advisory Board, and the editorial boards of the Journal of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, Hong Kong Journal of Ophthalmology, and EyeWorld.
In 1996, Dr. Singer was instrumental in amending the U.S. Patent Law to prohibit the enforcement of medical method patents again
Dr. Singer received his B.S. degree in 1977 from State University of New York at Albany, and his M.D.degree in 1981 from State University of New York-Downstate Medical Center, Brooklyn, NY. An internship in internal medicine was completed at Long Island College Hospital, Brooklyn, NY, and ophthalmology residency was completed in 1985 at Friedenwald Eye Institute, Maryland General Hospital, Baltimore, Maryland. Dr. Singer achieved board certification by the American Board of Ophthalmology in 1987. In 2006, Dr.Singer was elected into the International Intra-Ocular Implant Club, which is limited to 250 master eye surgeons.
