Limbal Relaxing Incisions
Corneal Topography is a sophisticated test which measures and analyzes over 12,000 points of curvature and surface power of the cornea. This is necessary to map out the exact pattern of corneal astigmatism and is essential in planning the correction of astigmatism.
Limbal relaxing incisions (LRI's) are partial thickness incisions that are placed on the far peripheral aspect of the cornea (the limbus) resulting in a cornea that is more round or spherical. The astigmatism is thus reduced and vision without glasses is improved. Limbal relaxing incisions have gained widespread acceptance amongst eye surgeons where it is often combined with RLE or cataract operations to reduce pre-existing astigmatism. Dr. Singer has used, refined and taught the LRI method of astigmatism correction since the early 1990's, and is recognized by his peers as an authority in this procedure.

LRI's can be combined with a Toric Lens Implant to correct very high amounts of astigmatism.
