Most health insurances cover cataract surgery with a standard fixed-focus lens implant. However, health insurances do not cover refractive lens implants such as the Crystalens, Verisyse lens and Visian ICL, nor do they cover astigmatism correction.

Due to a 2005 policy change in Medicare and most third party insurers, patients facing cataract surgery can continue to be covered by their insurance for the cataract/standard lens implant portion, but you now have the option to upgrade to the new technology by covering the difference in cost out-of-pocket.
